Why We Make
These Games

Game developer at a multi-screen computer setup — the kind of late-night sessions that make Champignon Studios games
The studio, late on a Tuesday

We grew up on Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World, and Mario 64. Those games weren't just entertainment — they were pure joy delivered through a screen. That feeling of nailing a difficult jump, discovering a secret level, hearing the coin-collect chime — it was magic.

"Nintendo won't build these games for PC. So we decided to do it ourselves."

Champignon Studios was born in France from a simple frustration: the PC platform is starved of polished, joyful platformers. The indie scene gave us Celeste and Hollow Knight — brilliant games, but dark and gruelling. We love them. But sometimes you just want bouncy physics and a sunny adventure.

Every level we design starts with one question: does jumping through this feel great? If the answer is no, we rebuild it. We obsess over the physics, the audio feedback, the little particle bursts when you land a perfect stomp. It's all in service of that one feeling — the Saturday-morning joy of a great platformer.

Our Four
Design Principles

Every mechanic, every level, every sound effect exists to serve these four ideas. They're what makes a Champignon Studios game feel like a Champignon Studios game.

Physics First

Jump arc, wall-slides, ground friction — these are tuned obsessively until every movement feels instinctively right. The physics engine is the heartbeat of everything.

Joy over Difficulty

We're not building a punishing rage-quit experience. We want you to feel clever and capable, not frustrated. Challenge is there — but the fun is always the point.

Secrets Everywhere

Every world holds hidden paths, surprise shortcuts, and Easter eggs for curious explorers. Replaying a level and spotting something new — that's the magic we live for.

Audio as Design

Coin chimes, jump squishes, the triumphant fanfare of a cleared stage — sound carries half the joy. We work with a dedicated composer for every piece of music and every sound effect.

Inside the Game World

What Makes Our Platformer
Feel Different

We reverse-engineered decades of Nintendo design wisdom and rebuilt it from scratch — for PC, with modern tooling, and a French indie studio's personal touch.

Handcrafted Level Design

No procedural generation. Every level is built by hand, playtested hundreds of times, and iterated until the flow feels effortless.

Variable Jump Height

Tap for a small hop, hold for a full arc. The classic Mario input grammar that feels natural after five minutes and masterful after five hours.

Worlds with Personality

Grassland, underground caves, sky islands, and more — each world has a distinct visual identity, its own enemy roster, and original music.

Power-Up System

Original power-ups that change how you interact with the world — not clones, but spiritual successors that capture the same sense of discovery.
